File Compass
A file manager that watches the machine it runs on.
Two folders at once
Move files without losing your place.
Open a second pane and both folders stay in view. Drag between them, or send a selection across with one keystroke. The pane you clicked last is the one that acts.
- Drag, copy or move between panes
- Large transfers run in the background — the window stays responsive
- The logo fills as a ring while work runs
Look without leaving
The file opens inside the window.
Click a file and it renders in place — images, documents, video, code. No second app, no separate window to dismiss. In dual pane the preview drops to the bottom so both lists keep their width.
- Images decoded in-app, with real pixel dimensions
- Zoom, fit, and a background that follows your theme
- Clicking a file activates its preview immediately
A note on the door
Warnings that show before you walk in.
Pin a note to a folder and it is visible from the outside. Anyone who reaches that folder reads it before touching a single file — the archive that must not be moved, the export that is already stale.
- Notes visible on the folder, not hidden inside it
- Sticky notes placed anywhere in the browse area
- One list of every folder note, each opening its folder
Remote, in the same list
Cloud folders sit beside local ones.
Google Drive, Amazon S3 and Cloudflare R2 appear in the sidebar next to your own folders. Tap a tile to browse it in place, or open the small square for a quick look without leaving the folder you are working in.
- Credentials held in the system keychain
- Scheduled backups to any connected destination
- A downloader that fetches straight into the current folder
Processor
See what the machine is actually doing.
Load per core class, the chip and its graphics cores, and the processes behind the number. The panel opens to the side; the file list keeps its place.
- Performance and efficiency cores counted separately
- Chip name and graphics core count, read without extra privileges
- Heaviest processes, with quit from the same panel
Memory
Pressure, not just a percentage.
Free memory is not the useful number — pressure is. The panel shows what the kernel itself reports, splits out the file cache, and explains swap instead of hiding it.
- Pressure read from the kernel, matching Activity Monitor
- File cache shown apart — it comes back the moment it is needed
- Swap with a plain explanation of when it matters
Disk
Space back, honestly counted.
The 25 largest files, the folders that grew, duplicates, and what the trash is holding. Duplicate hunting knows the difference between a real copy and a clone that shares the same blocks — deleting the clone frees nothing, and the panel says so.
- Duplicates verified by content, not by name or size alone
- Clones and hard links flagged: no false promise of space
- Everything removed goes to the trash and can be put back
Network
Addresses, connections, and a speed test.
The active interface with its address and name servers, live throughput, and the connections open right now. A speed test runs from the same panel when the number looks wrong.
- Interface address, router and name servers
- Open connections with the process behind each one
- Throughput test with a time budget, no runaway downloads
Power
What is draining the battery.
Draw in watts, battery health and time remaining, and the processes costing the most energy — battery and power in one card, one panel.
- Live draw in watts, with charge state
- Battery health and cycle count
- The processes spending the most energy, ranked
